Club Grading
Master Towndrow returned to Hucknall for this month's colour belt grading. As well as Hucknall and Selston students we were once again joined by Kimberley, Eastwood, and Ripley students. The overall standard was very high on a warm muggy evening. We're happy to report a 100% pass rate.

May 2008

New Assistant Instructors
Well done to Mark and Kayleigh who were successful on this month's course and are now fully qualified TAGB Assistant Instructor (with Enhanced CRB checks). Those in the clubs know how hard they work training 4 times a week and the help they give all students.

Black Belt Training
Derby once again played host to the Black Belt training session, Megan received her grading certificates and Alan received his 1st Junior Black Belt Star from Master Towndrow.

Derby Grading
Due to a prior commitment Richard Maxwell couldn't make the Hucknall grading next month, so at short notice he graded with Master Towndrow's club in Derby. Richard worked very hard and impressed the Examiner Master Atkins who gave him an 'A' pass. Well done Richard!

April 2008

Successes at Black Belt Grading
Congratulations Megan who travelled down to the TAGB headquarters in Bristol for the Black Belt grading. Rob & Kara were there and were very pleased with her performance.
The results were:
Megan Housley - promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt
A massive well done to Megan, her years of hard work have paid off.

March 2008

English Championships
The English Championships was once again held at The Nottingham Arena, the competition as bigger and better than ever, well done to all who competed. Rob, Kara, Mark, and Kayleigh all officiated on the day.

Black Belt Pre-grading
Congratulations to Megan, she was successful in the area's Black Belt pre-grading. The very best wishes for next month's grading in Bristol.

Junior Black Belt Star Grading
A huge well done to Alan Palmer who successfully tested for his 1st Star. (Junior Black Belts can grade for 3 stars in the 4 years between their 1st and 2nd Dans).

February 2008

Derby Grading
Congratulations to the Cresswells for attending the colour belt grading in Derby. Cheryl, Neil, Amber, and Tansy were all successful - it's always difficult to travel to a different club to grade, they all handled the additional pressure really well.

Colour Belt Grading
Well done to all who took part in this months colour belt grading which took place in Hucknall, the standard was extremely high. The clubs had a 100% pass rate with a high percentage of A and + passes.

Black Tag Grading
Congratulations to Lewis, Reece, Eleasha, and Jake for successfully passing their Black Tag grading held in Derby, to help prepare them for the Black Belt grading they were examined by a panel of a 7th Dan and two 6th Dans. A job well done, now it's time to focus on preparing for Octobers Black Belt grading.

Mark & Joe pass Umpires Part One
Well done to Mark and Joe for completing the first part of the TAGB umpires course, this is their first step in becoming fully qualified competition officials.

December 2007

Christmas & New Year Closure
We will break up for Christmas on the following dates:
Hucknall's last lesson = Thursday the 20th of December 2007
Selston's last lesson = Tuesday the 18th of December 2007

and we will return:
Hucknall's first lesson back = Thursday the 3rd of January 2008
Selston's first lesson back = Sunday the 6th of January 2008

Even after a short break like this we appreciate that it can be difficult to return, we'll make it as painless as possible. Why not make your 1st new years resolution to return to training and continue to increase your skills and continue on your journey to Black Belt - and beyond.

Colour Belt Grading
This month saw our largest colour belt grading, between the Hucknall & Selston clubs we had 26 people take part. The standard was very high and we are pleased to say that everyone passed successfully, with some great performances on the day. A huge well done to all that took part.

November 2007

Willie Lim
Rob and Kara organised a 2 hour workshop with Master Willie Lim 8th Dan, the workshop took place on Friday the 9th and was well supported by students from all over the North Midlands. Master Lim teaches alternative applications for movements from patterns and using your body to generate maximum power with minimum effort.

Black Belt Training
This month's Black Belt training session in Derby was another opportunity to train under the North Midlands senior instructors. Kayleigh, Mark, and Ben all received their grading certificates from Master Towndrow.

Welcome Michael
A quick Welcome to Michael Linworth 2nd Degree Black Belt, he has moved from Luton and has joined the Hucknall School. Michael is settling in well and will be an asset to the clubs.

October 2007

Successes at Black Belt Grading
Congratulations to those who travelled down to the TAGB headquarters in Bristol for the Black Belt grading. Rob & Kara were there to support and were very pleased with the Hucknall & Selston students. The standard was very high and our clubs had a 100% pass rate.
The results were:
Kayleigh Fenn - promoted to 2nd Degree Black Belt

Ben Wright - promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt

A massive well done to Kayleigh, Mark and Ben, all 3 have worked very hard in the months leading up to the grading and the preparation paid of with very good performances on the day.

British Championships
The Nottingham Arena played host to this years British Championships, the top class venue was matched by top class displays of sparring, patterns, and destruction. Kara, Rob, Kayleigh and Mark were all there acting as officials, helping to keep the day running smoothly.
Well done to Kyle for entering his 1st competition, he fought really well and had a great day.

September 2007

Colour Belt Grading
Congratulations to all who took part in the September colour belt grading. We were once again joined by students from Kimberley and Eastwood schools. The standard was very high, and we once again had a 100% pass rate.

Scottish Championships
Rob & Kara travelled up to Glasgow to officiate in this years Scottish Championships, we were made very welcome from our friends North of the border.

Black Belt Pre-grading
Congratulations to Kayleigh, Mark, and Ben - all 3 were successful in the area's Black Belt pre-grading. Next stop Bristol next month for the grading. We wish them all the best and carry on the hard work.

August 2007

Megan Successful at Black Stripe grading
Congratulations to Megan for successfully passing her last colour belt grading in Derby. With a strong performance on the day the next stop is the Black Belt grading in 6 months time, well done and keep up the good work.

Steve and James grade in Derby
When Steve realised he and James were going to miss our September grading, because of their summer holiday, we arranged for them to travel to our instructors club in Derby to test for their Green stripes. Despite the unfamiliar surrounding they both performed really well on the day and successfully passed, Steve with an 'A' pass.

Addition to the 'Students Area'
We have added a section on the 'Theory of Power' to the 'General Information' part of the 'Students Area' of this site. Understanding the 6 elements of the Theory of Power is important for you to get the most out of your Tae Kwon-Do.

July 2007

World Championships
Wow - what an event! The 8th Open World Tae Kwon-Do Championships were a massive success. The competition has been praised by many of the foreign competitors as the most enjoyable and best organised event they have ever attended. In addition to refereeing Rob and Kara became heavily involved in the organisation of the event, it was hard work (around 24 hours over the 2 days) but very enjoyable and it finished with one of the TAGB's now legendary Parties!

Change of Venue
Hucknall has now moved to the National School for both of it's lessons, we've had nothing but good feedback about the move and it gives the school more scope to grow and become even more successful. Once again we'd like to thank St Johns Community Centre for all it's help and support during our time there.

North Midlands Area Championships
Our region held it's biggest and most successful tournament this month. The new venue in Derby gave it a great atmosphere. Kara became involved helping Master Towndrow & Master Minnott to keep the event running smoothly and Rob was a senior referee keeping 1 of the 8 areas running, making sure all the officials and competitors had a good day.
Well done to Alan, Ben, Steve, and James for competing.
Congratulations to Ben for his Silver medal in sparring.

Change of Date and Venue for the British Champs.
The British Championships will now take place on the 14th of October, the great news is that the new venue is Nottingham Arena. It's a top quality venue and right on our doorstep. Ask Rob or Kara for an Entry Form now!

June 2007

Another Successful Grading
We held our largest grading this month, with over 50 people grading - we were joined by students from Selston, Kimberley, Eastwood, Derby, Alfreton, and Ripley. Congratulation to all from Hucknall with a 100% pass rate.

Kayleigh qualifies as Umpire
Congratulations to Kayleigh for being successful in passing the 2nd part of the TAGB Umpires course, she is now a fully qualified official, which takes her a step closer to her 2nd Dan grading.

Demonstrations very well received
A big thank you to all the students who helped at our Demonstrations at St Johns in Hucknall and Holly Hill School in Selston. Everyone who watched were full of praise.

May 2007

Black Belt Training
We were well represented in a very enjoyable Black Belt training session in Derby, it was a great opportunity to train under a 7th Degree Black Belt, two 6th Degrees, and three 5th Degrees. It was a reminder of how successful the TAGB is in the North Midlands and the quality of people we have.

Welsh Championships
Rob & Kara once again travelled down to Cardiff to the Welsh Championships to officiate, with 23 rings running all day the compitition ran very smoothly - a good indication of what we have to look forward to at the World Championships at the NEC next month.

March Grading

Midland Championships
Danny and Fred have taken part in their first competition, the TAGB Midland Championships at Kettering. Congratulations to Fred on his bronze medal.

Rob and Kara Refereeing
It's been a busy month for Kara and Rob, as fully qualified referees they spend days officiating at The South Midland Area Championships in Hereford and The Midland Championships in Kettering.

This web site goes live for the use of students and to provide information for members of the public who are interested in joining.

English Championships moves to Nottingham
The TAGB English Championships have changes venue, they will now take place on our door step at Nottingham Arena.
